At the beginning of the 21st century, it is difficult to imagine cities and towns without fast freight transport. But a couple of centuries ago, people transported luggage on carts, and the main driving force was the horse. Everything changed on July 16, 1872. On this summer day, a native of St. Petersburg, Alexander Ivanovich Orlovsky, received a license from the capital’s officials giving him the right to carry out the transportation of heavy luggage.
It was still a long way to the transportation of goods by KAMAZ, because the first transport company had only ferry cars at its disposal. An internal combustion engine capable of handling large shipments of industrial goods appeared in 1896 at the Gottlieb Daimler plant in Germany. Since then, the systematic development of freight vehicles began.
How to choose a truck?
The current cargo owner has a wide range of transportation options. To carry out small-sized cargo transportation – the heel suits best. Presentable foreign cars Fiat Doblo and Renault Kangoo, capable of carrying 700-850 kg at a time, roam on Russian roads. In Soviet times, the most popular compact van was the IZH-2715 with a carrying capacity of 450-500 kg.
Each type of transport has its own characteristics. There are still companies on the market that employ incompetent employees. Amateurs without a twinge of conscience send cargoes of frozen products in conventional wagons. But a refrigerator in St. Petersburg will perform such cargo transportation much more efficiently. As a result of the wrong approach, the goods deteriorate, and the customer of transportation incurs losses. To avoid troubles, it is necessary to conclude contracts for the provision of services only with professionals in their field.
Let’s consider the main types of modern trucks and get acquainted with their key features.
Gazelle
The most widespread small-scale transport in the Russian Federation. The gazelle of St. Petersburg is cheaply capable of carrying out cargo transportation in the minimum time. Up to 2 tons of products with a volume of 9 to 18 m3 can be loaded on board. The history of the model began in Soviet times, but the first production model rolled off the assembly line in 1994.
Refrigerator
In order to preserve perishable food, transport companies organize refrigerated trucking. The refrigeration unit maintains the required temperature inside the van. The mass production of “freezing” equipment began in the 1950s and continues to this day.
Container ship
Cars capable of handling the delivery of goods weighing up to 40 tons are called container carriers. A sturdy frame semi-trailer is used for transportation, and a powerful truck acts as a tractor. The final cost of shipping a container depends on its weight and distance to the destination.
Scow
The scow handles almost every type of cargo transportation perfectly. Motorists do not call that a barge, but any powerful car with a long flatbed semitrailer. Carrying out cargo transportation, a KAMAZ, or another tractor, can deliver about 20 tons of food or industrial products in one trip.
Wagon
Key cargo transportation of St. Petersburg – the truck is able to perform without delays on the way. So motorists dubbed a truck tractor with a semitrailer. The name comes from a long German cart, which carried heavy luggage until the second half of the 20th century. Today, a wagon is the main transport for long-distance flights.
Freight transport vehicles continue to evolve. Models of the future have appeared on the market. Scania Truck manufacturers have equipped their development with a hybrid engine that can run on both diesel and electricity. Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 now has the ability to drive on highways without a driver. The state of the road situation is monitored by special sensors. Perhaps soon cars will learn to do without human help.
